OUR SAFEGUARDING PROMISE

how this space meets pain — with support, never surveillance

The heart of it

Sparkloom holds thoughts. Some of them carry pain — deep distress, fear, danger. When that happens, one simple thing takes place: the thought is met with the same warmth as every other thought, and real help near you is offered as a choice. Nothing more, and nothing less. This holds for every person in every edition — under 16, 16 or over, and grown-ups alike.

What never happens

  • No flag is ever placed on youNot a mark, not a score, not a list. A thought that carries pain is met with warmth, never with a warning sign.
  • No person reads your thoughtsThe loom weaves each thought in the moment. No staff member ever opens your sky. There is nothing to open it for.
  • Nothing watches youNo monitoring, no risk count, no one being told. Your sky stays between you and your thoughts.
  • Your words are never judged by any country's lawsWhere you live does not change the promise. A thought is not a report, and this space will never become a listening post.
  • Nothing is handed to anyone outsideYour thoughts belong to you. They are never shared, sold, or passed on.

Built into the platform itself

These are not only words on a page. The platform's own foundations keep them, whatever the edition:

  • · Shared threads open at 16. A younger sky never meets a stranger here.
  • · A person under 16 is never shown as online to anyone else, and never sees who else is online — the shared sky stays empty for them.
  • · A glow appears only between people who already share a thread — nobody else's light ever drifts across your sky, and a sky without threads stays perfectly still.
  • · Above every glow floats only the first letter of a chosen name — a full name is never shown to anyone, ever.
  • · Only a grown-up can hold the looking-window, and only when a young person handed them the code themselves.
  • · None of this is a setting someone could switch off — the platform itself keeps these rules, whoever they are for.

When a thought carries pain

A support note appears beside the thought, holding real lines of support for your part of the world — you choose which part in Your Way, and nothing else is ever done with that choice. In the United Kingdom that means Samaritans (call 116 123, free, any time), Shout (text SHOUT to 85258), Childline (call 0800 1111, for under-19s), and if you are in immediate danger, 999. Anywhere else in the world, the lines near you — or findahelpline.com, free, in your own language. The note is an offering, never an alarm, never a lock, and never a message to anyone else.

The one hard line

One part of this promise is not negotiable: children must never be exploited or harmed. This space is not a monitoring service — it does not watch for this, and it does not read your thoughts. But if harm to a child, or danger to a life, ever reaches us — by law, by a report, by any means — we will not look away, and we will cooperate fully and honestly with the authorities. That is the single line where privacy yields, and we tell you about it openly rather than hiding it in fine print. If you are in immediate danger right now, call your local emergency number. In the United Kingdom, that is 999.

One promise, two editions

This space has two editions for young people, and the promise holds in both, exactly. What changes with age is the voice — never the rights, never the privacy, never the law.

If you are under 16

  • · The whole space is written in simple, kind words, made for you.
  • · Your sky is yours. Nobody reads it.
  • · A grown-up can only look if you gave them your code yourself. They can only look — they can never change anything.
  • · You can stop them any time, any day. One tap and the window closes.
  • · If something feels wrong, tell a grown-up you trust, or call Childline on 0800 1111. It is free, and no one will tell you off.

If you are 16 or over

  • · The space speaks plainly to you, like an equal — no baby words, no judgement.
  • · Real help lines for your part of the world are always easy to find, offered as your choice.
  • · A trusted person can look at your sky only if you hand them your code yourself — and you can end it any time.
  • · Your words are never judged against any country's laws, whatever your age.
  • · The same hard line protects you: harm to a young person is never looked away from.

Keeping the promise honest

This promise was written by this space's own safeguarding lead, in plain words, so it can be read by anyone. It is allowed to grow — if you ever see a gap in it, tell us through support and it will be faced, not filed away.
